Recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1874, the Dominique holds a special place in poultry history as one of America’s oldest chicken breeds.

The Dominique chicken is renowned for its distinctive physical characteristics. The breed is easily identifiable by its barred feathering, reminiscent of the Barred Plymouth Rock, and a notable rose comb. The barred pattern offers camouflage against aerial predators, making Dominiques an excellent choice for free-range environments. A fully matured Dominique rooster weighs around 7 pounds, while the hens average about 5 pounds.
