At Valley Hatchery, we’re excited to present the White Yokohama Chickens, a breed that epitomizes elegance and refinement in poultry. Originating from Japan, these birds are a testament to ornamental beauty, having been officially recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1981. Their most striking feature is undoubtedly their impressive white plumage, extending into long, flowing saddle and tail feathers, some reaching lengths of 3-4 feet. This unique feathering, combined with either a walnut or pea comb, makes the White Yokohama an excellent choice for exhibition, fitting perfectly in the All Other Standard Breed-Oriental Class.
Despite their ornamental nature, White Yokohama Chickens are surprisingly active. They are relatively small, with roosters weighing around 4.5lbs and hens about 3.5lbs. While not prolific layers, hens produce approximately 80 small, tinted eggs annually and may occasionally go broody. These chickens require a bit of extra care; they thrive in warm environments and need additional protein during the growth of their spectacular tails. Though the roosters should be kept separate from other assertive breeds, the hens integrate well into mixed flocks, provided they have ample space. They are easily tamed and handle well, making them suitable for confined spaces.
Embrace the allure of the White Yokohama Chickens from Valley Hatchery and add an element of sophistication to your flock. These birds not only bring a touch of Japanese elegance but also adapt well to various environments, making them a delightful addition for poultry enthusiasts.
