Product Overview

This gentle of a giant is one of the largest breeds of chicken. Hens weigh about 8 pounds while their male counter parts tip the scales at around 11 pounds. Tame, docile, and friendly they are a great addition to your back yard flock. Hens are some of the best mothers you could ask for. They are known for their maternal instincts and raising future flocks. Lay up to 180 medium to large brown eggs but production slows down when broody. Can be used for meat, especially soups due to their large size but are not specifically raised for meat. They originated in China and passed through Europe making it to the states later. They are cold hardy and fare well in warmer days but not brutal summer heat. They are feather legged and have very heavy healthy fluffy plumage. There are a large variety of color breeds available among the Cochin breed. They are available in Barred Standard Cochin, Black Standard Cochin, Blue Standard Cochin, Splash Standard Cochin, Buff Standard Cochin, Gold Lace Standard Cochin, Partridge Standard Cochin, Silver Laced Standard cochin, White Standard Cochin, and the Standard Cochin Random Assortment as well. If you still want more options on this amazing breed, they come in a mini size as well, Cochin Bantams.
