Product Overview
This clean legged breed of chickens originated in the mid 1800s in the town of Marans, France. Gorgeous black and white feather pattern. They are dual purposed birds used both for meat production and egg laying. They lay rich milk chocolate colored eggs that may grow deeper in color with time. The eggs of this rare bird are also speckled rather than solid in color. Produce large eggs in excess of 180 eggs annually. They are not yet recognized by the APA. Broodiness varies so hens are not proven parents. This breed does very well with a mixture of other birds. They are friendly and amiable. Roosters are not generally aggressive, however, can become very protective. Do you know why roosters are protective? Many think it is just to establish his rights to his hen(s). Not true. A rooster’s job is to protect the entire flock from predators.
