Valley Hatchery proudly presents the Mottled Japanese Bantam Chickens, an exquisite breed that combines ornamental beauty with a rich history. Ideal for exhibitions, these active and vibrant birds are a feast for the eyes with their distinctive black feathers artistically mottled with white spots. They carry a majestic presence, courtesy of their large, upright tails that elegantly tower above their heads, and their wings that gracefully touch the ground.
Despite their ornate appearance, these chickens are not just about looks. They are known for laying a considerable number of small, tinted eggs. The roosters, with a modest weight of 26oz, and the hens, slightly lighter at 22oz, make them a charming and manageable size for any poultry enthusiast.
The Mottled Japanese Bantam is steeped in history, with its roots tracing back to Japan. Recognized by the American Poultry Standard of Perfection since 1947, this breed is a testament to poultry breeding excellence. However, their hallmark short legs, while a breed standard, are due to a dominant lethal gene known as ‘creeper’ (Cp). This gene can lead to a lower hatch rate, with surviving offspring displaying either the signature short legs or normal legs.
At Valley Hatchery, we are thrilled to offer these magnificent Mottled Japanese Bantam Chickens. They’re not just birds; they’re a piece of living art that brings a touch of Japanese heritage to your backyard. Add these beautiful and unique birds to your flock and experience the joy of nurturing a breed that’s as rich in history as it is in beauty!
