Orpington is one of the top chicken breeds from England. Their puff, large, and round appearance is too charming to ignore. The breed was created in 1886 by crossing Minorcas, Langshans, and Plymouth Rocks. The Orpingtons' popularity skyrocketed in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, and it has held its popularity ever since. Originally meat birds, Orpington rooster weights up to 10 lbs and hens around 8 lbs. However, a homestead with Orpingtons will never lack fresh eggs as this breed is a very good egg layer, with over 200 eggs annually per hen. Docile birds by nature, Orpingtons will act more like a pet than a wild bird.
