Product Overview

Unusual black and white chicken is an old breed that originated in Holland’s village Lakerveld back in the early 18th century. The breed was later developed in Germany, where it was shaped into today’s standard. Although it’s a dual-purpose breed, Lakenvelder is mainly selected because of its interesting color pattern, coal-black neck and tail feathers combined with a pure white body. This selection focused on appearance affected other qualities. Lakenvelder weighs 4-5 lbs and is a fair egg producer with an average of 150 per year. It is not a common breed in the United States. Still, these rarity Lakenvelder chicks are available at Valley Hatchery, and they will be a fantastic visual addition to any flock
