The Jersey Giant is rare and gets its name for a reason. This breed is the largest there is when it comes to chickens and one of the most striking to look at. The black variation has an amazing iridescent shine throughout the bold black feathers when the light catches them. This hardy bird does great in multiple different climates and because of its size, it is a lot less likely to be targeted as a menu option for wild animals. The very docile temperate makes them amazing chickens to keep if you have a family with children or other pets. Because of their size, they cannot fly well so they may be kept in an open run. The hens very rarely go broody. Annual egg production per hen is 180 to 260 medium brown eggs. Adult males can weigh up to and over 13 pounds and females average around 10 pounds. Black Jersey Giants are an APA-recognized breed and are shown in the American Class. The large birds live an average of 8 to 12 years. Our tiny giants at Valley Hatchery come with a live arrival guarantee. All of our baby chicks for sale are bred with quality standards we stand by.
