The Swedish Duck is a breed of dual-purpose bird that is known for its docile nature. Originally from Germany, these medium-sized ducks have an oval head with a medium-length bill that is almost straight on top. They have a stocky body that is held at an angle of around 20 degrees above horizontal. Both male and female Swedish Ducks have uniform plumage that is a bluish or black slate color, with a white bib. However, the male’s head is a dark blue with a greenish bill, while the female’s head and bill are the same color as the body. The legs of both sexes are reddish-brown, with irregular markings of greyish-black. Valley Hatchery offers Swedish Ducks in both blue and black varieties. These birds are known to lay 120-185 large to extra-large white or tinted eggs per year, and they tend to go broody. Male Swedish Ducks typically weigh 6lbs, while females weigh around 5lbs.
