Valley Hatchery is delighted to offer the Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantam Chicks, a breed that exudes ornamental elegance and rustic charm. These captivating birds showcase a unique color palette with their soft, buff-colored feathers beautifully accented by distinct black tails, making them a picturesque choice for exhibitions and backyard enthusiasts alike.
Renowned for their vibrant personalities and compact size, Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantams are ideal for both experienced poultry keepers and beginners. The breed’s defining feature is its impressive, upright tail that arches gracefully, creating a striking silhouette. The males typically weigh about 26oz, while the females are slightly lighter at around 22oz, making them a perfect fit for smaller spaces.
An intriguing aspect of the Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantam, and the breed in general, is the presence of the ‘creeper’ gene. This genetic trait, responsible for their short legs, is a dominant gene but comes with a significant caveat. The creeper gene can lead to lower hatch rates due to embryonic complications, resulting in fewer chicks hatching. Among those that do hatch, roughly two-thirds will exhibit the short-legged trait, while one-third will have normal leg length.
Despite this genetic factor, these bantams are known for their fair egg production, laying small, tinted eggs. They occasionally exhibit broodiness, which can be an exciting feature for those interested in breeding and nurturing their own chicks.
Valley Hatchery is excited for you to experience the unique charm of the Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantam Chicks. These birds are not just a visual treat but also bring a lively and engaging presence to your flock, promising a delightful poultry-keeping journey.
