The Wyandotte breed comes in one of the largest color varieties of any chicken breed. With 18 different colorations, the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte seems to be one of the more popular choices. The rich red-brown is complimented by a gray-blue lacing throughout the wings and body. With a friendly personality, these chickens are known for being family birds. They tolerate the colder climates well but do not fare well in hotter ones. The hens will provide you with a good egg supply, roughly 180 to 260 medium brown eggs per hen annually. When reaching full maturity, the roosters will weigh an average of 8.5 pounds and the hens will weigh an average of 6.5 pounds. The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte is not an APA-recognized breed. With proper care, these birds can live up to 12 years but average anywhere from 6 to 12.
