Valley Hatchery is proud to introduce Red Shoulder Yokohama Chickens, a stunning ornamental breed with a early history in Japan. As their name suggests, these chickens are known for their red feathering in the shoulder area, which is mixed in with traditional white feathers. They have an upright carriage and pheasant-like body, and the roosters are noted for their extremely long saddle and tail feathers, which are the primary focus for exhibitors of this breed. Under the right conditions, the tail can grow up to 2-3 feet every year.
The Red Shouldered Yokohama was admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1981 and is shown in the All Other Standard Breed-Oriental Class. These chickens are perfect for exhibition and are known for their active nature. They lay approximately 80 small, tinted eggs per year. Roosters generally weigh 4.5lbs, while hens tend to be about 3.5lbs. While they are not known for being particularly broody, Red Shoulder Yokohama Chickens can occasionally go broody. Add some unique beauty to your flock with these amazing Red Shoulder Yokohama Chickens from Valley Hatchery.
