Valley Hatchery proudly presents the Silver Duckwing Standard Old English Chicks, a breed that boasts a heritage recognized by the American Standard of Perfection since 1938. These chickens are a visual marvel, with roosters flaunting striking black and white feathers, while the hens exhibit a captivating blend of brown and black. Their distinctive straight comb and pearl-colored legs add to their unique appearance.

Renowned for their longevity, these chickens are among the longest-living breeds, often reaching up to 15 years of age. While not primarily known for their egg-laying prowess, Old English hens are capable of laying around 120 white eggs annually. These hens tend to become broody and are noted for their exceptional maternal instincts, though they can exhibit some aggressive tendencies.

In addition to their ornamental value, Old English chickens are also appreciated for their meat quality, possessing well-distributed muscle meat, making them suitable as table birds. Historically significant, they have contributed to the development of various other chicken breeds. For exhibition purposes, the males are usually dubbed (removal of comb and wattles), enhancing their show-worthy appearance.

At Valley Hatchery, we also offer these chickens in bantam varieties, catering to diverse preferences. While primarily kept for exhibition due to their splendid plumage and available in an array of colors, these chickens are much more than just their looks. Their combination of beauty, history, and utility makes them an exceptional choice for poultry enthusiasts.
