At Valley Hatchery, we are proud to offer White Sultan Chickens, a breed known for its stunning plumage and friendly, docile nature. These birds were once favored by the rulers of Turkey, hence their name, and have a unique appearance with head crested feathers, a feathered muff, beard, shanks, and a fifth toe. White Sultans originated in Southeastern Europe but were bred in Turkey and eventually made their way to England in 1854. They were officially recognized by the American Standard of Perfection in 1874.
While White Sultans are well-suited to life in confinement, they may be bullied by other breeds if kept in mixed flocks. They make excellent pets or exhibition birds. They are active and lay small white eggs, with roosters weighing around 6lbs and hens weighing about 4lbs. They are recognized by the American Poultry Association and are shown in the All Other Standard Breeds Class. White Sultan Chickens can occasionally go broody, making them a useful addition to a backyard flock.
