Valley Hatchery is delighted to present our Splash Laced Red Wyandotte Chicks, a visually captivating and highly desirable breed for any chicken enthusiast. Originating in the United States, this breed is a standout with its exceptional feather pattern. Each feather showcases a striking mix of mahogany or red, complemented by light grey or silvery-white lacing, creating a unique and varied appearance. These birds are akin to the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, with Splash being the lightest shade in the blue spectrum.
The Splash Laced Red Wyandotte is renowned for its contrasting feather coat. This adds a distinctive charm to the breed, which is not currently recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). Despite this, they have become a favorite among backyard poultry enthusiasts. The breed’s robust build and dense feathering make it especially suited for colder climates, thriving in environments where other breeds might struggle.
Beyond their striking appearance, Splash Laced Red Wyandottes are celebrated for their temperament and utility. They are known for being mild-tempered and naturally broody, demonstrating a keen instinct to care for both eggs and chicks. This makes them an ideal choice for families, including those with children and other pets, thanks to their calm and friendly nature. These hens are not only great egg layers, producing 180 to 260 medium brown eggs annually, but they can also be raised for meat.
In terms of size, roosters mature to an average weight of around 8.5 pounds, while hens typically weigh about 6.5 pounds. With proper care, these birds can live up to 12 years, offering a long companionship period, with an average lifespan ranging from 6 to 12 years. At Valley Hatchery, we take immense pride in ensuring that all our baby poultry, including the Splash Laced Red Wyandotte chicks, are healthy, happy, and ready to thrive in their new homes.
