This chicken originated in the U.S.A. in Delaware of course! It dates back to the 1940’s. This bird was considered to be endangered but has been making quite the come back! This species is calm and docile but is not overly friendly. A dual purposed bird, for egg and meat production. Yields approximately 180-260 eggs annually. These chickens grow rapidly and mature early. Hens lay large to jumbo brown eggs. Beautiful bird, mostly white with black feathers accenting the neck and tail area. A hen is fond of her young and is a broody sitter. Did you know that a mother hen will turn her eggs 30 or more times a day? She sits on her eggs to keep them warm and they typically hatch in about 21 days.
