Valley Hatchery is proud to offer the rare and beautiful Golden Spangled Spitzhauben chicken breed for sale. These chickens, known as Golden Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben, hail from Switzerland and are their national bird. Despite their rarity in the United States, these chickens are highly prized for their unique appearance, including their cavernous nostrils, horn-type comb, and mid-size, forward-pointing head crest. Our breeders have a focus on correcting the issue of backward-facing crests and excessive cresting that is often found in other Spitzhauben lines.
Not only are Golden Spangled Spitzhauben a stunning addition to any flock, but they also have practical value, suitable for egg production and exhibition. These chickens are known to lay between 220-280 small to medium white eggs per year, and both roosters and hens are relatively small, with males weighing in at around 5lbs and females at around 4lbs. Although they are not yet recognized by the American Poultry Association, Golden Spangled Spitzhauben are a highly sought-after breed and make a great choice for those looking to add a touch of exotic charm to their backyard flock. And while they may be flighty at times, these chickens can occasionally go broody, making them a versatile and valuable addition to any poultry enthusiast’s collection.
