Description
Valley Hatchery’s Saxony Ducklings are a testament to resilience and quality breeding, developed in the 1930s in Germany by Albert Franz. Combining Pekin, Rouen, Buff, and Blue Pomeranian breeds, these ducks boast a light-colored undercoat for an appealing carcass. After a setback during the war, Franz successfully reestablished the breed, known for its large size, second only to the Pekin. Friendly and calm, they make excellent pets and are increasingly popular in exhibitions. Weighing 6.5-8.5 lbs and hardy in all climates, Saxony ducks are active foragers and reach maturity in 20-24 weeks. They produce 110-175 mostly white eggs annually, contributing to their dual-purpose utility. Despite their size, they have no flying ability and are recognized as a threatened breed by the Livestock Conservancy.
