Silkie is a one-of-a-kind unusual chicken. Hair-like feathers resemble silk threads on top of dark skin. Those unique features made Silkies popular across the globe. They are famously known as "pet chickens" because of their miniature size and friendly nature. Silkies originated in China and are one of the oldest breeds. Even though they are categorized as bantam chickens, Silkies are a little bigger than most bantams. Roosters can weigh 2-3 lbs. Silkies are fair egg layers with an average of 120 eggs per hen, but they are at the top of the broodiness list.
