Tips for Chick Season

Hey there, chicken enthusiasts!  Are you ready for the upcoming chick season at Valley Hatchery? Let us share some tips to make sure your season is absolutely fantastic!

Timing is Everything: Our hatch season runs from February to October. Remember, the early bird gets the worm! Pre-orders start in December, and like a pie at a picnic, they go fast. So, plan early!

Check Those Shipping Details: Double-check your shipping info. Accuracy is key! And on the day your order is set to ship, give your local post office a ring. Let them know you’ve got live cargo on the way – we always print your number on the label, but it’s best to be safe than sorry.

Be Ready on Shipping Day: When your chicks are set to arrive, you’ve got to be quick. No dilly-dallying after breakfast or waiting till the workday’s done. When the post office calls, go get your chicks right away. They need to get to their new home – your brooder – fast.

Set Up a Cozy Brooder: Your brooder should be ready before your chicks arrive. No small spaces like totes or aquariums – they need room to move. Use a heat lamp, not a heat plate, and be sure to secure it well. Remember, the brooder’s location is important. Keep it in a stable, warm place, not a shed with temperature swings.

Health Tips: Let’s talk about apple cider vinegar with the mother. It’s great for stressed, weak or lethargic chicks. Mix 4 tablespoons of it with every quart of water for 3-5 days. It’s a big help for their little bellies.

And remember, give our chick care guide more than just a peck – find it right here. Don’t just skim; read it thoroughly, whether you’re a ‘seasoned chicken tender’ (we couldn’t resist the pun) or ‘unseasoned’ and just jumping in. It’s your go-to resource for a cluckin’ fantastic season!
