Description

Valley Hatchery offers the distinguished Magpie Ducklings, a breed originating from Britain with a somewhat mysterious ancestry, possibly including the Indian Runner. First bred post-World War I and introduced to the United States in 1963, these ducks are now prized for both their ornamental and utility qualities. Exhibiting a striking black and white plumage, they are known for their friendly and calm nature, making excellent pets. Weighing 4.5-6.0 lbs, they are hardy in all climates and mature within 20-24 weeks. While their flying ability is limited, they’re active foragers, contributing to pest control. Magpies lay 120-180 cream to light green eggs annually and are recognized for their good mothering abilities, despite not commonly going broody. Originally bred for eggs and meat, their white breast feathers ensure a clean carcass post-plucking. Their light classification and active nature make them a versatile addition to any flock or homestead.
