Splash Ameraucana Chicks

Valley Hatchery proudly offers the Splash Ameraucana Chicks, a remarkable addition to any backyard flock. This breed, uniquely American, was developed in the United States in the 1970s from Chilean Araucana chickens. Distinguished from the Easter Egger and true Araucana breeds, our Splash Ameraucanas boast both beards and muffs, as well as a striking appearance: predominantly white with captivating splashes of blue to black across their feathers. With their calm and quiet demeanor, these chickens are perfect for backyard keepers. They adapt well to cooler climates, thanks to their pea comb, and are known for their docility, although they may be shy around other pets and chicken breeds. Females typically weigh about 5.5 pounds, and males around 6.5 pounds, making them nearly equal in size. Each hen can lay 180 to 200 medium to large, uniquely blue-tinted eggs annually. Some may even produce eggs with light green shells, a rare trait that adds to their allure. As of November 2023, the American Poultry Association officially recognized the Splash variety of Ameraucana, a testament to their distinctiveness, although not all color variations of Ameraucanas have been acknowledged. Their average lifespan ranges from 7 to 8 years, ensuring a long-term companionship with these feathered friends. Please note that vent sexing accuracy in this breed is around 80%, slightly lower than the 90% average for other breeds. Additionally, a genetic beak issue known as scissor or cross beak is present in approximately 1 out of 100 chicks, a condition where the top and bottom beak don’t align properly.
